Peschiera del Garda

Peschiera is one of the most characteristic localities of Lake Garda: it overlooks the Veronese shore of the lake, at the confluence with the Mincio river, and is completely surrounded by canals.
The first settlements in the area date back to the Bronze Age, Peschiera was then a Roman city, from the end of the 13th century part of the Scaligera Lordship and later a possession of the Republic of Venice.
The historic center of Peschiera del Garda is characterized by walls and fortifications that began to be erected since the Middle Ages, which culminate in the Fortress, an imposing defensive work that has protected the town for centuries.
A short distance from the center stands the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino, a 16th century church full of artistic treasures, with an enchanting cloister.

For art and history lovers, Lake Garda offers fascinating medieval fortified centers, Scaliger and Venetian castles, lakeside villas and archaeological sites, including the extraordinary remains of the Roman domus known as the "Grotte di Catullo" in Sirmione.
If you love cycling you can take the cycle path that, starting from Peschiera, winds for 40 kilometers along the Mincio river, surrounded by nature, to get to Mantua. Over a thousand kilometers of marked trails, for all levels, make Garda a paradise for two wheels!
If you are a food and wine tourism enthusiast, visit the wineries and farms of the area, stroll among the olive groves or lemon groves and explore the itineraries along the Bardolino, Lugana and Custoza wine route. Enjoy Gardesana-style sardines or aolette in carpione accompanied by delicate locally produced extra virgin olive oil or traditional peasant meat with polenta.
